There are no boundaries to the ways we grieve

Journey of Grief

GriefMatters takes you along on my journey of grief - a journey that began when my soulmate, lover, partner, wife, and best friend Wen was ripped from our together-life by cancer on December 20, 2015.

Welcome to GriefMatters, my website for people who are going through the pain and anguish of having lost a loved one.

When you click on the ‘Blog’ button, you can access all the blogs that I have written so far. If you like this page, please consider following it. I’d love to hear from you and get supportive comments.

My name is Kirsten Helmer and I created this website as a forum to share my journey of grief with you. On December 20, 2015 the unthinkable happened when Wendy, the love of my life, my soulmate, best friend, partner, lover, and wife was ripped from our life only three weeks after her cancer diagnosis. Never before had I felt such anguish, despair, and hopelessness. I began to write and create art as a way to process the myriads of feelings that were raging through me. Some of this I shared publicly through Facebook posts. At least once a week on each Sunday following Wen’s death I would write a post accompanied by photo(s) or art. As Wen’s death date came and went, I felt I needed a different forum for my writings and artwork: GriefMatters.
